ELS Smart Ureteral Catheter

A catheter that hears the therapy and self-locates in the ureter — no fluoroscopy. Patent work to my name.

The flagship device program of my time at Avvio Medical, and the one with patent work to my name. Avvio's Enhanced Lithotripsy System breaks kidney stones with ultrasound-activated microbubbles in an outpatient procedure — no general anesthesia, no stents, no fluoroscopy — and the FDA granted it Breakthrough Device designation in October 2025.

The smart ureteral catheter is what makes the system aim without imaging: it carries acoustic sensors that detect the treatment's energy waves in real time, letting the catheter self-locate within the ureter and keep the therapy on target throughout the procedure.

I led proof-of-concept and first prototypes, then supported design development and design transfer at the contract manufacturer — carrying the device from bench idea to a manufacturable, regulated product.
